Demonstration Store

Listed below are some items to consider testing and/or observing when looking at the demonstration store. Click the Go to Demonstration Store link here or at the bottom of the page to open a new browser window with the home page of the store. This window will remain open for reference.

Please note that email features of the demo store are live. If you decide to test the emailed quote from the shopping cart or to place a sample order (emails a confirmation), then please use an email address that you own. We do not want unsuspecting people receiving practice emails from our store.

Product Search

• Clicking any of the manufacturers in the Cellular Accessories category in the Browse Products menu will return a form that will help further refine the search. A list of accessory types (a subcategory) and phone models (another subcategory) appear as checkbox form elements. This demonstrates the flexibility of the search process. An intermediate search content page (in this case the breakdown for manufacturers) or multiple intermediate search pages can be used for custom code that handles more complex tasks before submitting criteria to the search script.
• Products in the Cellular Accessories category are examples of simple products, i.e., the products are single items without attributes.
• Clicking the Computers category in the Browse Products menu demonstrates how large categories can be broken down into subcategories on an intermediate page. Subcategory breakdown is built into HostedStore without using a search page as is done with the Cellular Accessories category.
• Select the Systems - Custom-Built subcategory from the Computers category (or order a pizza from the restaurant) to see examples of products with attributes. For a product like a custom built computer, not only will the attributes adjust the base price of the item, but the inventory of other products can also be adjusted based upon the selection made. The pizza products demonstrate an optional text attribute that allows the customer to specify special instructions. Required text box attributes can also be added to products.

Shopping Cart

• Products with attributes will have their product name displayed as a hyperlink with the current attribute choices itemized below. Click the hyperlink to return to a modified product detail page for the product. Click the Modify Item button and the changes will be applied, the new price will reflect attribute changes if applicable, and the product will still be in that same position in the list of all cart items.
• The rest of the features on the shopping cart page are straightforward. The quantities of all of the cart items can be adjusted simultaneously. Entering a a non-positive number or non-numeric character for quantity will remove the item from the cart. Estimated order totals without tax and with tax for each jurisdiction are detailed at the bottom of the page.
• Enter an email address and click the Email Quote to receive an emailed copy of the shopping cart. The email will contain details of the cart items including product attribute choices and the estimated order total without tax.

Checkout

• To pay with a credit card, select MasterCard, use account number 5424000000000015, enter any three digit number for the security code, and provide any date in the future.
